Creating ‘Cool Spaces’ is one way our community is adapting to our changing climate which will deliver longer
periods of hotter weather. Cool Spaces are being set up in communities around Australia.
What is a Cool Space?
A Cool Space is an indoor air-conditioned space designated to provide respite to people during extreme heat.
Extreme heat and heatwaves are associated with more deaths in Australia than any other natural disaster. Cool Spaces are intended to reduce heat health harm risks for people, especially those most at risk including the elderly, young children, people living with disabilities or existing health conditions, and those without access to air-conditioning.
On hot days, check your neighbours, friends, family and pets are keeping cool too.
